“Quizno’s model - with a twist”
On September 10, 2001, al-Qaeda was a name that was hardly recognized. Though the group was founded in 1988 by Osama Bin Laden and this timeline tells of earlier attacks linked to the group, the name was just not largely recognized. After September 11, however, the world knew al-Qaeda. By the end of the month it became a household name.
Is that actually true? Did people really forget about the 1993 attack on the WTC? That stayed in the news forever. I mean, I guess I expect people not to know about the embassy attacks or the attack on the ship in Yemen, maybe? I mean, when the attack on the ship occurred, I still remember people going over the attack in detail on the news and why the boat was allowed to approach so quickly.
Maybe living in DC where an excessive number of people work for the government makes attacks on government property more newsworthy, but I find it hard to believe that people didn’t remember the 1993 attack that stayed in the news for 4 years while Ramzi Yousef was in the process of being captured and eventually convicted of the attacks.
